When Positive Thinking and Affirmations Don't Work
What if I said that thinking positive, reading books, and stating your affirmations are not going to create the transformation you desire?
Would that trigger you? Would you want to argue with me?
I don't know about you, but I have read all the books and took the classes. And it all seemed so easy. Make a vision board, think positively, and say my affirmations and miraculously my life would turn around overnight.
My life wasn’t bad, but I had a feeling of dissatisfaction. There was something that was missing that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was out of alignment with who I came here to be.
And even though I was doing what I thought was right, I was just putting a band-aid on a deeper issue. I know that some of you will say that the law of attraction states that we get what we focus on and I agree with that 100%.
However, what if we think we’re turning away from the negative but we really aren’t? For example, if I state the affirmation “I release excess weight easily and effortlessly,” isn’t that another way of saying “I’m overweight so I need to release excess weight?” There is a part of my focus on being overweight. Perhaps a better affirmation might be “I love myself just the way I am.”
Or maybe your affirmation is “I attract the perfect job that allows me to utilize my talents and skills in the highest way possible.” Are you really re-affirming that you don’t have a job now on a sub-conscious level?
For me, I had to give myself permission to be strong and courageous and to take that deep dive and look within. I resisted this deep dive for years because I thought I’d drown in a pool of negativity, judgement, regret, and shame and never come up for air.
But quite the opposite happened. I was able to break open and love myself in greater ways. I woke up to my strengths and purpose in a new way. I was able to unleash and unfurl more of who I was, and I was able to trust myself and my own inner wisdom like I had never done before.
So, in addition to your reading, coursework, and affirmations, I’m encouraging you to take a step toward that inner journey to uncover the real you. It's more beautiful than you know.
Are you filled with fear? If you’re human and breathing, the answer will probably be “yes.” Do you have doubt? Of course. How about some shame? Yes. Guilt? Uh huh. What about resentment? Sure. The good news is that you are not your feelings; you’re more than that. Your feelings or history don’t need to define you.
You are 100% worthy (and awesome) exactly how you are. And I'm encouraging you (I'm almost begging you), don't let fear stop you from being the you that you have come here to be. You are valuable. You're amazing. You're awesome. You're here to make a difference.
And that inward exploration may be just what you need.
Say ‘YES” to yourself (and live your aligned life) by getting to know the ‘real’ you!
